Thomas D. Wright is a California State Bar Certified Family Law Specialist, in practice more than thirty years, and is determined to do what is best for his clients and their families.
Tom is an eager and accomplished litigator. He has been rated by his peers in 2016 and 2017 as AV Preeminient ® in Family Law by Martindale Hubbell. This is the highest award possible from his peers in ability and ethics. He has served as sole counsel in hundreds of family law hearings and served as lead counsel in over forty family bench trials. He has undergone advanced mediation training with many institutions, and has over 25 years of mediation experience. Tom is a skilled mediator and currently provides mediation during complex family matters. Along with his dedicated staff and qualified team of attorneys, Tom provides his clients with reliable legal representation and effective mediation.
Background and Education
An eighth generation Californian, the Wright family has made Santa Rosa their home since 1958. Tom served two years of active duty in the U.S. Navy, as well as 5 years in active reserves. Tom earned his Bachelor of Science from Oregon State University in 1974, returning the following year to obtain a secondary teaching credential. Four years taught at both High School and College level prior to legal practice.
After teaching in Oregon for several years, he attended Empire Law School in Santa Rosa and obtained his Juris Doctorate in 1982. Tom was admitted to the California State Bar in 1983. His practice has always emphasized family law and, became a Certified Specialist in Family Law by the State Bar of California in in 1996. Tom has completed advanced mediation training at Gary Friedman's Center for Mediation in Law and course work qualifying him as a collaborative law attorney from Chip Rose in Santa Rosa. He has completed mediation training through Goldman Negotiation Seminar in San Francisco and the Harvard Negotiation Project at the US District Court in San Francisco, CA.
Community Service Boards, Associations and Memberships
Tom is a member of the Sonoma County Family Law Bar, the California State Bar, the American Bar Association, and has been a member of the Richard Sangster American Inns of Court since 2001. For over 25 years, he has served as Judge Pro Tem for Sonoma County Superior Court. Tom was on the Board of Directors for the Sonoma County Legal Aid from 2002 to 2005. For over ten years, he served as an advisory board member and instructor for Grandparents Parenting Again. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Santa Rosa Salvation Army from 2002 through 2008. Tom has completed advanced mediation training at Gary Friedman's Center for Mediation in Law and course work qualifying him as a collaborative law attorney from Chip Rose in Santa Rosa. He has completed mediation training through Goldman Negotiation Seminar in San Francisco and the Harvard Negotiation Project at the US District Court in San Francisco, CA.
